Benefits of Using Solar Power

Solar power is quickly developing due to the rising costs in electricity, the dwindling materials of fossil fuels and of course the government backing used to complete the research necessary to create this new power source. It is far past the time for us to stop relying on fossil fuels and nuclear power and begin relying on clean and renewable power source such as solar power. The demand for solar energy is here and for states such as California and Florida, they are by far the states with the greatest potential to gain from solar power due to the high amount of sunlight they receive on a yearly basis. Solar power definitely has the potential to decrease the cost of energy, increase the safety of our environment and keep our planet safe for a little longer.

We are all aware of the crisis our planet is in with the onset of global warming and the over exposure of greenhouse gas emissions to our ozone layer and because of these impending issues, solar energy is becoming the number one alternative solution. Statistics show that solar power can offset 2.3 million pounds of greenhouse gases over the next 30 years. This is the equivalent of planting 5,700 fully grown trees on the planet. This may not seem like enough to make a difference but 2.3 million pounds of greenhouses gases eliminated from our atmosphere can be nothing else but beneficial. Solar energy is a fairly simple system to create, it contains no moving parts unlike the windmills being constructed throughout the world which makes them virtually maintenance free. This is yet another benefit associated with solar energy, a benefit that cannot be ignored. In order for a long term solution to this problem there has to be little maintenance involved and of course a strong enough energy source that will not run out or further damage our planet; solar power has both.

Let’s go through some of the key benefits of using solar power not only for large businesses and corporations but within personal homes as well.

- Lower monthly electric bills or complete elimination of electricity bills thanks to solar panels

- Protection against the inevitable runaway fossil fuel prices in the future

- Generate more local jobs

- Preservation of our environment and ozone layer

- Energy security and efficiency for the long term

- Solar cells gather this energy without making any noise, unlike the windmill technology

- Solar panels will allow you to save money in the long run

- Easy installation

These are advantages that we never received with the use of fossil fuels and advantages our planet desperately needs. Basically, solar power is generated through solar panels that are attached to your home, business or otherwise any location requiring electricity. These panels can be an expensive up front purchase but it is a one time fee and after the installation you will begin receiving electricity throughout your home for free. No more electric bills! The sun is our most powerful resource and unfortunately it has taken us until now to realize its potential. With solar energy we can heat, cool and run an entire household all from the power of the sun.

There are a few disadvantages that have been associated with solar power and the number one disadvantage is how expensive solar panels can be to install and begin utilizing. The average household cannot yet afford to utilize solar energy because of the high cost but this will not always be the case. Aside from this obvious disadvantage solar power cannot be created during the night time hours of the day but some professionals state that the sun is powerful enough to fuel your home for the full 24 hours just from the 10-12 hours of sunlight per day.

New energy sources are always up for debate but there is no debate when it comes to how successful solar energy can be for our planet.
